How to Configure Your Writing Style

A Writing Style is a named prose voice the AI imitates when it writes a chapter on Magic Chapters. It is not about plot or worldbuilding. It is about the rhythm of the sentences, the vocabulary, the imagery and the way characters talk.

You create or install styles in the Writing Styles section, then pick one style per chapter in the story form. This guide shows how to build a style, where to install it, how to use it when you write, and how to share it.

What a Writing Style contains

• Name and Language: the language the style is meant for. The library can be filtered by language.
• Short description: one or two sentences shown in your lists and in the library.
• Tags: up to five labels such as Minimalist, Lyrical, Dark or Fast-paced, so the style is easy to recognize.
• Style instructions: the rules the AI follows when it writes in this style. This is the part that shapes the prose.
• Sample passage: an optional short text written in the style. It is shown as a preview, and the AI uses it as a reference for voice and rhythm.

Three ways to create a style

Open Create new style and choose how you want to build it:

1. From a passage

Paste two or three paragraphs written the way you want your chapters to sound. The AI studies the sentence rhythm, vocabulary, imagery and dialogue, then writes the style instructions, a description, tags and an original sample passage for you.

Use this when you already have text you love, such as your own writing. Only paste text you have the right to use. Do not paste pages from a copyrighted book.

2. From a description

Name an author, a genre or the traits you want, for example "Edgar Allan Poe" or "short sentences, dry humour". The AI writes the full style for you. Well-known authors and literary movements give the best results.

3. Create manually

Write the style rules yourself. This is best when you know exactly how the prose should sound. Describe the prose, not the plot, and use the imperative form:

Write in short declarative sentences. Prefer concrete nouns and strong verbs over adjectives. Let silence and gesture carry emotion; avoid naming feelings directly. Keep dialogue sparse and natural.

The two AI methods count toward your daily AI builds. Free accounts get one build per day; Premium accounts get twenty. Creating a style manually is always free and unlimited.

Whichever way you create it, you can edit every field afterwards. Every style is checked against our Acceptable Use Policy; a flagged style cannot be used until you fix it.

Where a style is offered

The Availability section of the style form asks Where to install?

• Globally: the style is offered in every story you write.
• In a specific writing pack: the style is offered only in the chapters of the packs you tick. Good for a project with its own voice.
• Nowhere: the style stays in your list but is not offered. This is also how you remove a style you no longer want.

Install a style from the library

The Library holds styles provided by the platform, based on public-domain authors and literary movements. Open a style to read its description, tags and sample passage, then choose where to install it. Styles you did not create cannot be edited; use Duplicate to get a private copy you can change.

Use a style when you write a chapter

In the story form, the Writing Style field sits next to Chapter Length, Story Tense and Narrative Perspective. It lists your installed styles, grouped into Your styles and From the library. The info button next to the field shows the tags, description and sample passage of the picked style.

• One style per chapter. A chapter is written in one voice. Pick Default to use the standard prose shaped by your other settings.
• It carries forward. When you continue a story, the next chapter starts with the style of the previous one. You can change it for any chapter, and the regenerate dialog offers the same choice.
• It only affects new chapters. Installing, changing or removing a style never rewrites chapters you already have.
• It takes priority. The style instructions are placed in the writing instructions with a note that they win over the general prose guidance, so a sparse style stays sparse even at a high Language Complexity. See Customize Story Language Complexity.

Writing Styles and Plugins

Both add instructions to the chapter, so use each for what it does best:

• A Writing Style is the voice: sentence rhythm, vocabulary, imagery, dialogue. One per chapter, with a preview you can read before you pick it.
• Plugins are the rules: worldbuilding, what to avoid, how characters behave, what the AI should remember. Several can be active at once.

If you built a style as a Story Generator Plugin in the past, move its instructions into a Writing Style. You get the sample passage preview, the library, and a single clear choice per chapter instead of a rule competing with your other plugins. Tips for better styles

• Be specific. "Make it more emotional" is vague. "Show emotion through gesture and pauses; never name a feeling directly" is a rule the AI can follow.
• One voice per style. Do not mix witty banter and gothic prose in one style. Create two and pick the one each chapter needs.
• Add a sample passage. A few sentences in the style help the AI more than a long list of rules, and they show you at a glance what you picked.
• Keep it original. Describe how a published author writes, but do not paste their text as the sample passage. Use your own words or public-domain text.
• Test and refine. Write a chapter, read it, then adjust the instructions. The change applies to the next chapter you write.

Final tip: start with one style from the library, write a chapter with it, and compare it with a chapter written with Default. Once you can feel the difference, build your own.
